Trump Threatens to Block Gordie Howe Bridge Opening The $6.4 billion Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Detroit to Windsor, Ontario is complete and set to open. President Trump says he won't let it open until the U.S. is "fully compensated." Here's the irony: Canada paid for the entire thing. The bridge is jointly owned by Canada and Michigan. A House investigation is now looking into whether the owner of the competing Ambassador Bridge, a major Trump donor, lobbied the White House to block his new competition.

BLS Revises Truck Jobs Down. Way Down. The Bureau of Labor Statistics annual revision shows far fewer truck transportation jobs than originally reported. December 2025 came in at 1,466,900 jobs. That's 125,000 fewer than the January 2023 peak. What looked like a flat employment picture all year was actually a steady bleed. The revised numbers confirm what the market has felt: capacity is leaving, quietly and consistently.

Tender Rejections Holding Above 13% Carriers are still rejecting more than one in eight loads tendered by shippers. That's the highest sustained level since 2022, and it's happening while tender volumes are running 6-7% below year-ago levels. Translation: this tightening is supply-driven, not demand-driven. Capacity is exiting faster than freight is slowing down.

Arizona Bill Would Let Police Seize Trucks for Fake CDLs A bill moving through the Arizona legislature would make it a felony to operate with a falsified CDL if you're in the country illegally. It also authorizes police to seize and auction the truck. And if the employer knowingly hired the driver, they'd owe a fine equal to the truck's value. Similar legislation is advancing in Florida.

Ohio Converting I-71 Rest Areas to Truck Parking ODOT announced it will close two I-71 rest areas in Medina County starting March 2nd and convert them into dedicated truck parking facilities. The $6.8 million project expands capacity from 30 spaces to 95. It's part of Ohio's larger $150 million push to add 1,400 truck parking spaces at 33 sites by the end of 2027.
