Fleets - how to attract them, manage them and keep them happy.

They are all on our mind so let’s talk about it.

Howdy! My name is Andrew Jones and I own OTR Truck Parking. You may have seen my last two newsletters. This month I wanted you all to learn from my mistake of picking the wrong fleet to occupy my yard, my process of evicting them and auctioning off one of their vehicles to recoup the money they owed me.

Tell me your stories! You can email me at [email protected] or call/text me at 423-497-0877.

Fleets - A How-To

Like I said, learn from my mistakes and make sure you do the below. We get a ton of questions from fleets and this is how you can stand-out from the pack.

  • Check your availability. If you have open spots always list them on Truck Parking Club. Fleet requests happen and you need to be prepared.

  • If a fleet calls you directly and you negotiate a rate then shoot me a text, call or email. I will get you to the right person to get that fleet deal secured and insured via Truck Parking Club.

  • Once you get them in, make sure they understand that Truck Parking Club handles the rest. Send them the 888 number and sit back and relax.

  • Always list the following links below for your site for maximum fleet visibility.

  • Make sure to add this to Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and Google Maps.

  • Check out my website aka www.otrtruckparking.com and then click on “Book A Spot”.

So What Happened with the Cartel?!

It all started with a fleet that had reached out to me personally a year ago. I decided to not use Truck Parking Club to facilitate the transaction which was my mistake however, they took my lot from 30% to 90% occupancy. I was jumping for joy. In short, it was a nightmare.

They moved in over 150 trucks onto my site during the summer of 2024. We gave them every concession under the sun. First month free, discounted fleet rate and on-site staff that would help them take inventory of their vehicles.

But later in the fall it started to turn sour as they were behind in their payments. Almost $50k behind and we needed to make a change. So in the fall of 2024 we worked the dealership that leased the vehicles to them. And they were over $500k in the hole with that same customer.

So, with consent from the customer and the dealership they started to move 150 trucks off of my site. Things were smooth until we found that 10 were unaccounted for.

That’s when I found out via a detective in Laredo, TX that those 10 trucks had crossed the border.

Yikes! I couldn’t believe it and worked with the local police and Laredo police.

No guns and no fuss but man when they say organized crime it truly is organized.

After this was done I had to auction off one of the vehicles that were left behind via an online auction site to recoup my lost rent which luckily, the Cartel was not involved in.

In short, let Truck Parking Club handle your fleets so you don’t end up like me and god forbid Billy Bob-Thorton in Landman.

It’s not me but I sure did feel this way.
