⛽ Fuel Prices Jump After Iran Strikes
Fuel markets reacted immediately after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran
🚛 What Happened
Gasoline futures surged up to 9%
Diesel futures jumped up to 17%
U.S. average gas hit $3.00 per gallon
Diesel climbed above $3.75, a three month high
This is largely caused by tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a shipping lane that moves about 20% of the world’s oil, that has nearly stopped.
🌍 Why It Matters
![]() | ![]() |
Iran produces about 3.3 million barrels per day, but its real leverage is geography. When ships hesitate and insurers pull war-risk coverage, supply tightens fast.
Crude makes up roughly half the price at the pump, and when oil spikes, fuel follows.
Economists call it the “rockets and feathers” effect:
Prices rise like a rocket, fall like a feather.
🏛️ Political Pressure Rising
Gas prices aren’t always political, but can be in the short term.
President Donald Trump has often pointed to lower fuel prices as proof of energy strength. But presidents have limited control over global oil markets, and voters tend to blame the White House when prices climb.
🛢️ Can Prices Be Controlled?
The U.S. could release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve — but it’s only about half full (around 415 million barrels) after prior drawdowns.
On top of that, we’re entering the shift to summer blend gasoline, which can add up to 40 cents per gallon.
Owner-operators and fleets should watch:
Diesel spreads
Fuel surcharge adjustments
SPR announcements
Insurance impacts on global shipping
If Hormuz disruptions continue, volatility isn’t going away. Register here!

🚔 Woman Accused of Stealing Almost $10k from Love’s
A former general manager at the Baker City Love’s Travel Center is facing felony and misdemeanor theft charges after allegedly stealing more than $9,000 from her employer.
Lexi Marie Krug, 37, was arrested Feb. 26 at her home by Baker City Police.
Prosecutors have charged her with:
5 counts of first-degree theft (Class C felony)
8 counts of second-degree theft (Class A misdemeanor)
She was arraigned in Baker County Circuit Court and granted conditional release. She cannot leave Baker County for one week. A plea hearing is scheduled for March 30.
💵 What Investigators Say Happened
According to a probable cause affidavit, Krug allegedly stole $9,130 in 13 separate transactions between Nov. 3 and Dec. 23, 2025.
The money was reportedly taken using a “cash recycler” a digital system that functions as an internal bank, allowing managers to deposit and withdraw cash for registers.
Five of the transactions allegedly involved $1,000 withdrawals. The remaining transactions were under $1,000.
Love’s loss prevention provided documentation of the activity to police.
⚠️ Blackmail Claim
Investigators say Krug signed a statement claiming she took the money because she was being blackmailed by gang members in Arizona.
However, according to police, she declined to discuss those claims further after her arrest.
The case remains pending. Read more here

🩺 Health Tip of the Week: Benefits of Iron
For drivers, maintaining healthy iron levels isn’t just about fitness, it’s about safety, stamina, and staying sharp.
Iron helps your body produce hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to your brain and muscles. When iron levels are solid, you’re more likely to experience:
✅ Steadier energy (less mid-day crash)
✅ Sharper focus and alertness for safer driving
✅ Better endurance during physically demanding tasks (loading, tarping, chaining)
✅ Stronger immune function (fewer sick days or doctor visits)
✅ Improved recovery from workouts or long shifts
Low iron can lead to fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, and decreased reaction time, all of which can affect performance and safety on the road.
🥩 1. Iron-Rich Foods (Best First Step)
Boosting iron through food is the safest, most sustainable approach:
High Iron Foods
Red meat (beef, lamb)
Poultry (especially dark meat)
Fish and shellfish (tuna, salmon, oysters)
Beans and lentils
Spinach and leafy greens
Fortified cereals and whole grains
Pumpkin seeds and nuts
🍋 Tip: Pair iron rich meals with vitamin C (orange juice, berries, peppers) it helps your body absorb iron more effectively.
💊 2. Iron Supplements (When Needed)
If blood work shows you’re low, a supplement can help, but always talk to a healthcare provider first.
Common Iron Supplement Forms
Ferrous sulfate – widely used and effective
Ferrous gluconate – gentler on the stomach
Heme iron polypeptide – may absorb better for some people
Iron bisglycinate – often easier on digestion with fewer side effects
🚛 For drivers who experience GI sensitivity, forms like iron bisglycinate or ferrous gluconate are often better tolerated.
