Trucking In the News

  • 🚚 New Mexico has launched a $2.7 million Truck Parking Availability System (TPAS) using electronic road signs and the state's 511 Travel Information system to help truckers find available parking at six rest areas on Interstate 10. This project is part of a multi-state effort with Arizona, Texas, and California, funded by a $6.85 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant. It aims to provide real-time information about over 550 parking spots at 37 rest areas along I-10, addressing the challenge of truckers struggling to find safe parking efficiently. (Transport Topics)

  • Palm Beach County has voted against a plan to allow commercial truck parking in The Acreage, overturning a previous decision. Commissioner Sara Baxter's proposal to permit 80,000-pound tractor-trailers on each of the more than 30,000 lots in the area failed to gain support. The existing operators are expected to be given some time to relocate before code enforcement takes action against them. Opposition to the proposal grew due to concerns about safety and road damage, with estimates of the cost of repairing roads damaged by additional semis exceeding $1.5 billion. County commissioners will cast their final vote on the revised ordinance on February 22. (The Palm Beach Post)
